The Murrumbidgee General Practice Network Ltd (MGPN) is an incorporated not-for-profit health promotion charity. We are an active member of the Australian General Practice Network (AGPN) and General Practice NSW (GP NSW). First established in 1994, we were formerly known as the Murrumbidgee Division of General Practice Ltd. With the majority support of its membership, the company officially changed its name in January 2008 to the Murrumbidgee General Practice Network Ltd. Since its inception, the MGPN has drawn its primary membership from GPs practising in the rural NSW local government areas of: - Berrigan
- Carrathool
- Griffith
- Hay
- Jerilderie
- Leeton
- Murrumbidgee
- Narrandera
In 2004 the majority of Primary Members supported a change to the Articles of Association to include a nominated non-GP representative as a Board Director. Our inaugural non-GP representative is Mr. Noel Hicks, former Federal Member for the electorate of Riverina. With Mr. Hick’s election to Chair of the Board in 2007, we were amongst the first within the Divisions Network across Australia to have a non-GP member in this lead role. From 2006, the Board of Directors have supported the active recruitment of GP Registrars as Primary Members. Other non-specialist providers practising locally in areas other than general practice (eg. hospital CMOs) are currently accepted on application as Associate Members. The MGPN achieved and has maintained accreditation according to ISO 9001:2000 standards since 2006. Some important partnerships we have developed in recent times include: - A Heads of Agreement with the Greater Southern Area Health Service (NSW Health) and 4 neighbouring Divisions – Albury Wodonga Regional GP Network, Murray Plains Division of General Practice, Riverina Division of General Practice & Primary Health and Southern General Practice Network.
- A Memorandum of Understanding with the Griffith Aboriginal Medical Service
- A partnership with the University Of Wollongong Graduate School Of Medicine in the establishment of a local rural clinical school.
